cover 1809 (4 June) entire letter from Private Thomas Escott serving with The Royal African Corps, to Devon, marked "Soldiers Letter" on face and again on reverse, the latter apparently being countersigned by the Commanding Officer, presumably not prepaid and so sent by private ship, rated "2", "8", "2/4" and showing London Ship Letter c.d.s. and with London c.d.s. on reverse; faults including portions of the letter missing, reinforced internally and written over in biro, nevertheless a most unusual cover.
