cover -- A145, used from Newcastle-on-Tyne to Morpeth and dated 27 May 1840, bearing a full margined example of an 1840 1d. from plate 1a, affixed by two small blobs of red sealing wax at opposite corners and cancelled and tied by three strikes of the red Maltese Cross (the envelope showing an additional strike at centre); some minor perimeter creases and the adhesive with small fault at upper right, otherwise fine.
