Gould wrote that the Lapland Bunting is 'an occasional visitant to Britain. Its true home is...the land of the Lap and the Lemming. There it breeds in... the fells, the fjelds, and fjords of Norway, Finland and Lapland'.

DISTRIBUTION: Breeding distribution circumpolar in arctic and subarctic areas north of the tree-line, between 78°N and 63°N. Winters south into south and central North America, central Asia, coasts of North Sea and into Europe. In Britain regular visitor but variable and generally small numbers; has nested since 1977
