The former with slender hoop and irregular cabochon sapphire bezel, 13th/14th Century, finger size N 1/2, a gold hoop with engraved diagonal bands, 15th/16th Century, finger size K, and a miniature gold posy-ring engraved with quatrefoils, inscribed inside 'I desire to deserve', 17th Century, finger size B 1/2
'I desire to deserve' was the motto adopted by Sir John Evans, the distinguished president of the Society of Antiquaries and authority on posy rings, when he was knighted
