Lot Essay

In the summer of 1921 and 1922 Feininger visited Lüneburg. He was fascinated by the gabled architecture, and treated this theme in watercolour before creating this monumental woodcut. He returned to the subject in the 1930s. Prasse records nine impressions in public collections including the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and the Museum of Modern Art, New York
