Alice Strobl notes that this drawing belongs to a series of five studies for Klimt's celebrated oil Die Jungfrau of 1913 housed in the Národní Galerie, Prague. Fourteen studies for the painting (Strobl 2272-2285) are known to exist of which only two are in blue crayon, this and another fine example in the collection of Dr Rudolf Leopold in Vienna (Strobl 2281). Other notable drawings from the series are housed in the Graphische Sammlung der ETH in Zurich and the Historische Museum der Stadt Vienna.
