Safavid Persia, late 17th/early 18th century
gouche heightened with gold on paper, wearing a green robe with orange lining and purple sash, long scarf and hat the man bends forward under the weight of a large two-handled white water-jar painted with red and blue chinoiserie motifs, grass below and clouds above in gold, orange marginal rule, (some flaking, one crease), applied illuminated cartouche panels above and below, similar meandering vine at sides, mounted on cream card painted with gold flowering plants (light wear)
