A KHORASSAN COPPER INLAID BRASS PESTLE AND MORTAR, the mortar of faceted cylindrical form with flaring wide rim and base, a moulded base around the waist, the body engraved and inlaid with two rows of crescent motifs enclosing stylised palmettes, the foot with similar decoration, the upper surface of the rim with a broad band of scrolling vine around a fine copper inlaid naskh benedictory inscription interrupted by slightly raised drop-shaped panels engraved with fish, the pestle of typical form engraved with vertical flutes bordered by kufic inscriptions flanked by minor rope-pattern bands, 12th century (slight corrosion)
