Six exterior views, the remainder interiors of the building on Observatory Hill designed by Mr. Henry Irwin and erected between October 1885 and 1888 when it was occupied by the Viceroy. The cost of the building work is given as 970,093 rupees with an additional sum of 206,749 for furniture and decorations and 135,399 for electric lighting: a total of approx. 1,312,241 rupees at a time when the nominal value of a rupee was approx. two shillings (or ten pence).
