A TRANSYLVANIAN DOUBLE-NICHE RUG, the shaded brick-red field loosely scattered with stylised floral motifs and palmettes, the stepped blue spandrels with flowerheads and serrated leaves, in a brick-red border of ivory cartouches containing turtle-palmettes and flowering vine divided by alternating blue and buff-brown stellar panels between an inner brick-red stripe of linked angular flowerheads and outer chocolate-brown stripe of linked polychrome flowerheads, 17th century (areas of wear, corroded brown, selvedges re-bound)
