ANOTHER, with straight single-edged blade double-edged at the point and etched and gilt almost to the tip with running scrollwork enclosing ovals etched with animals of the chase and on each side of the forte with symmetrical scrollwork and the inscription 'ne me tirez pas sans raison/ne me Remettez point sans honneur' (gilding worn, lightly pitted), brass hilt with downturned shell cast and chased with a mounted horseman and his dog in pursuit of a lion in a landscape, rear quillon formed as an animal-head, knuckle-guard pierced and chased with a caryatid, grip of tapering octagonal section covered with tortoiseshell and a later single plaque of mother-of-pearl and with finely pierced and chased ferrules decorated with scenes of the chase, and pommel-cap also with scened of the chase, mid-18th Century
