A STEEL-HILTED SMALL-SWORD with slender blade of flattened hexagonal section etched and gilt over nearly half its length on each side with scrollwork, vases of flowers, and the inscription 'ne me tire pas sans Raison/ne me Remete point sans honneur', the hilt with double shell-guard pierced with birds, and with later grip bound with brass wire, circa 1700; and another, the blade etched on each side of the forte and inscribed 'nec temere nec timide', the hilt with pierced double shell-guard, quillon-block and pommel chiselled with classical profile busts, flowers and foliage, and with wire-bound grip, late 17th Century
