A CRUCIFORM SWORD, the straight slightly tapering double-edged blade of flattened hexagonal section with double fullers on each face of the forte stamped with letters, the iron hilt comprising straight, flat quillons widening to triangular tips, and circular pommel with chamfered edges and prominent button, counterfeit damascened in silver throughout with running scrollwork bearing flowers and foliage and with traces of gilding, grooved wooden grip in two parts, bound with copper wire and divided by a central gilt iron band with concave sides, in original tooled leather-covered wooden scabbard (worn, tip missing) with side scabbard for a by-knife (missing), iron locket decorated en suite with the hilt, and iron ring for suspension, early 17th Century, possibly English
