AN ATTIC BLACK-FIGURE BAND CUP, the exterior with a band of decoration on each side comprising a central scene on Side A of a lion overcoming a bull which is kneeling on its left foreleg, blood pouring from a wound inflicted by the lion, a similar scene on Side B of a lion attacking a wild boar, both sides with winged human-headed sphinxes which look back over their shoulders, each with a paw placed on the palmette in front of them, details in added white and purple, a reserved band below, around the rim, on the inner handles and a reserved interior tondo, repaired with small chips to the stemmed foot, two pairs of rivet holes from an old repair around the tondo, circa 550-530 B.C.
