The trellised frame of the rectangular chair-back is enriched with flowered tablets and central clasp of Roman-foliage. Venus's shell badge is displayed in its serpentined rail cartouche and emerges from acanthus-foliage above the cabriole and satyr-hoofed legs. A fauteuil pattern of the 1690s, with related arched cresting between husk-capped pilasters, features in the collection of Parisian designs assembled by Daniel Cronström, while serving as Secretary to the Swedish ambassador to the Court of Louis XIV (see: M. Jarry, Le Siege Français, Fribourg, 1973, p. 78, fig. D23)
