Lot Essay

Presley, Cash, Perkins and Lewis were dubbed The Million Dollar Quartet following a one-off studio session at Sun Studios on 4th December, 1956. The results of this session were not released until released twenty-five years later as an album The Million Dollar Quartet, although there is still some debate as to whether Cash actively participated. The session had been completely accidental as, by this time, Presley had left Sun and was signed to RCA. He was visiting Sun when Perkins and his band were recording, Cash arrived and according to authors Roy Carr and Mick Farren in their book Elvis, The Complete Illustrated Record, the four...spent the entire afternoon speeding through traditional gospel songs and current juke box hits....Sam [Phillips]...kept the tapes rolling. "Who knows....we may never have these people together again!"
