A rare and important autograph letter, signed, from Elvis Presley to his girlfriend, Anita Wood, [n.d. but October 28th 1958], Hotel Grunewald, Bad Nauheim, Den Terrassenstrasse 10, written in blue ballpoint pen, telling her of his intentions to marry her, Dear "Little Bitty", For the first time in a hundred years I am writing a letter...I just thought of so many things I wanted to say to you and I couldn't say them on the phone. You'll never know how much I miss you baby, and how much I want to pet you and call you "Widdle Bitty"...I haven't dated a single girl since I have been here [Germany]...I have never and never will again love anyone like I love you sweetheart. Also I guarantee that when I marry it will be Miss "Little "Presley" Wood" ...Love me, Trust me and keep yourself clean and wholesome because that is the one big thing that can determine our lives and happiness together. If you believe me and trust me you will wait for me and our future will be filled with happiness...I worked so hard to build up my career and everything, and if you truly love me you would not want anything to happen to it and cause me to be unhappy. No matter what I'm doing, whether it be the army, making movies, traveling [sic] or singing I will be thinking of the time when we have our first "Little Elvis Presley". So keep this in mind and don't get discouraged and lonely. Just remember this is a guy that loves you with all his heart and wants to marry you. Once more thing honey for goodness sake please don't let anyone read this and don't say a word about this to anyone...If you love me and you are sincere you wouldn't want to let anyone know our intimate secrets...I love you, love you, love you...Yours alone and forever E.P...P.S. Lot Essay

In the accompanying letter of provenance from Anita Wood, she states that...I dated Elvis Presley from 1957 to 1961. The...letter was written to me by Elvis during the time he was serving in the army..., her letter also refers to the cassette tape included in this lot as...a tape recording of a 30 minute conversation we had when he was in California, making a movie, after he returned from Germany, 1p. When played, the recording constitutes a conversation lasting approximately fifteen minutes which begins with Anita placing a collect call to Joe Esposito, who then puts her on to Presley. It is not clear on what date, or where, this conversation took place.
Presley was discharged from the army on 5th March, 1960 and went almost immediately to California to film Flaming Star, released on 20th December, 1960, so it is probably during this period that the recorded telephone conversation between Presley and Anita Wood took place.
