The following seven lots are the property of artist Jamie Reid. On the advice of his secondary school art teacher, Jamie Reid enrolled at Wimbledon Art School in 1962 when still only sixteen. In 1964 he moved to Croydon Art School where Malcolm McLaren was also studying, but the two didn't meet until April, 1968, when they, according to Reid...had an immediate rapport. In 1970, Reid started the Suburban Press with Jeremy Brook and Nigel Edwards, based in Croydon. They published six magazines of the same name which focused on local politics and council corruption, circulation reached about 5,000 until the press was sold in 1975. In his book Up They Rise, Reid states that his time there as "invaluable", mainly because of his direct involvement with the actual printing process ...a lot of the work that came to the public eye with the Sex Pistols was a result of what I'd learnt on that press. After receiving a telegram from McLaren, Reid headed for London and in the autumn of 1976 helped set up the Sex Pistols' management company Glitterbest at Dryden Chambers, off Oxford Street, London. In the next few years, Reid was responsible for producing some of the most recognisable artwork of the 20th Century.

A fanzine Anarchy In The UK, 1976, issue number one, designed by Jamie Reid, Sophie Richmond and Vivienne Westwood, published by Glitterbest Ltd, printed by Zigzag, the front cover illustrated with a photograph of Sue Catwoman, the content featuring black and white photographs by Ray Sevenson of the Sex Pistols' trip to Paris, September, 1976, their first appearance at the 100 Club, 30th March, 1976; and various Punk characters including Rat Scabies, Debbie Wilson, Linda Ashby, Simon Barker and Sue Catwoman, signed on the front cover in black felt pen by Jamie Reid and additionally annotated with an OVA (victory and anarchy) symbol -- 17¾x12½in. (45x31.8cm.)
