When the Sex Pistols final split was officially announced on the front page of the Sun newspaper, 19th January, 1978, they were due to play the first date of their European Tour in Stockholm. The gig was cancelled along with the rest of the tour. Sid Vicious was in hospital in New York following a drug-induced coma while Malcolm McLaren was still trying to bring the Great Rock And Roll Swindle project together.
