Thirteen previously unpublished snap-shots, twelve colour and one black and white, taken by Don Long, during the filming of promotional footage for Strawberry Fields Forever and Penny Lane, the majority in Knole Park, Sevenoaks, Kent, England, on 31st January and 7th February, 1967, showing The Beatles, director Peter Goldmann and others, majority -- 5x7in. (12.7x17.8cm.), various shots comprise:
-- eight featuring John, Paul, George and/or Ringo standing next to the camera or using a hand-held ciné camera, including one shot of Paul signed and inscribed on the reverse in blue ink To Don, all the breast from long ago! Paul McCartney (1985!!)
-- two shots showing the group sitting on the white horses used in the Penny Lane sequence
-- one shot showing the group painting a piano
-- one shot showing the group walking towards the camera from the dead oak tree in the Strawberry Fields Forever sequence
-- one shot showing crowds of fans in Stratford, London, where the rest of Penny Lane was shot;
accompanied by sixteen additional prints (printed recently). eleven of which correspond to the shots described above (29)

These photographs were taken by Don Long who owned the production company hired to work on the promotional footage for Strawberry Fields Forever and Penny Lane. The sequences were shot at Knole Park in Kent on 30th and 31st January and 7th February, 1967. Additional footage for Penny Lane was shot on 5th February in Stratford, East London. These short films introduced a new format in terms of promotional music videos in that the footage showed scenarios meant to explore the meaning and the feeling of the accompanying song, rather than just showing a performance.
These photographs were probably taken on the 31st January and 7th February as these were the two days when the scenes around the oak tree in Strawberry Fields and the horses scenes in Penny Lane were shot respectively. It has been suggested that the oak tree scenes were inspired by the lyric No one I Think is in my tree.
A section of the Penny Lane footage was first shown on Juke Box Jury on Saturday, 11th February and the footage for both songs was screened on Top Of The Pops on 16th February, as well as on various American television programmes in February and March.
