8o (162 x 105 mm). General title, section title for Philotas, both with small woodcut device, other woodcut initials, head- and tail-pieces. Blank H8 present, A1 and A2 (blank but for signature) preceding Philotas. (Lacking one of the two terminal blanks, small wormhole to title neatly mended, tiny marginal repair to E2). Light brown straight-grained morocco, covers gilt-ruled, spine gilt in six compartments, gilt-lettered in two, edges gilt. Provenance: Richard Heber (1773-1833), small circular label with ink number "470" on front endpage (sale, Sotheby's, London, Part IV, 1834, lot 470) -- Britwell Court Library (sold Sotheby's, 29 March 1971, lot 117) -- purchased from John F. Fleming, New York, 27 April 1971. Exhibited: Grolier Club, 'This powerfull rime,' 1975, no. 7.

Third collected edition, with the addition of the FIRST EDITIONS of Daniel's verse drama The Tragedie of Philotas, and the short lyric poem Ulysses and the Siren, to previously published works including The Tragedie of Cleopatra (1594) and The Complaint of Rosamunde (1592). RARE: no copy has been sold at auction since this, the Heber-Britwell Court copy, in 1971. A relatively tall copy, with some deckle edges preserved at lower edge.
