FIRST EDITION of the author's first book. While attending Christ Church, Oxford in 1836, Ruskin began his long and distinguished career as a published author. He won the Newdigate Prize in 1839 for this poem, after competing for the coveted honor three years in a row. Rusking recited the work at the Theatre, Oxford on 12 June 1839. Wise Ruskin I, 1.
