8o (220 x 138 mm). Half-title, 4-page publisher's advertisements at end. (Inner corners repaired on first five leaves and reinforced at folds, a few minor repairs on half-title.) Original blue wrappers, uncut (skilfully rebacked, a little soiled); morocco pull-off case. Provenance: G. Rickards (signature [twice] in ink in margin of page 45) -- purchased from John F. Fleming, New York, 1 May 1970.
FIRST EDITION. Shelley began "Rosalind and Helen" at Marlow and finished it at the Baths of Lucca in August, 1818 after he had left England for the last time in March of that year. Shelley later complained of the edition that there were errors "which are so much the worse because they are errors in sense" (quoted in Grolier Shelley). The collection also includes "Hymn to Intellectual Beauty," "Ozymandius" and "Lines Written Among the Euganean Hills." Ashley V, p.68; Granniss/Grolier Shelley 49; Tinker 1897; Wise Shelley, p.50.
