This tapestry forms part of a series of ten tapestry cartoons of the Acts of the Apostles, commissioned by Pope Leo X in 1515 from Raphael to decorate the Sistine Chapel. The original tapestries were woven by Piete van Edinghen, also known as Pietr van Aelst, in Brussels and seven were hung in the chapel by the end of 1519. Seven of the cartoons, the property of Her Majesty the Queen, are in the Victoria and Albert Museum. The design was copied and slightly altered by many factories including Gobelins, Beauvais and Mortlake
