Although the present bronze clearly reflects the influence of Giambologna, it does not correspond precisely to any of the bronzes in his Labours of Hercules series. Instead, the figure of the hero corresponds more closely, especially in the more horizontal angle of his right forearm, to his counterpart in a group of Hercules and Cacus formerly on the London art market (Gibbon, loc. cit.).
