Another version of the present bronze is to be found in the Dahlem Museum in Berlin, with minor differences of detail. In the catalogue of 1904 Bode describe it as 'Florentine, first half 16th century' (Bode, loc.cit.), although in the revised version of Bode's work of 1907 James Draper moves the date forward to 'late 16th or early 17th century' (Bode, 1980, loc.cit.). The facture of the present bronze, with its fine attention to detail and reddish-brown patina, would suggest an 18th century French origin.
