Immediately after the Second World War, British car manufacturers began production of civilian vehicles with the same or only slightly modified designs that they used in the 1930s. For many years they ran happily along using the technical knowledge gained in previous decades, feeding their products to the eager British consumer who had been deprived of new transport for some eight years. The situation lasted well into the 1950s when European competition caused a re-think.

The Conquest was introduced in 1953 to replace the smaller Consort. It embodied a new 2½-litre engine in a body already announced on the Lanchester Fourteen. Variations of these followed - The Conquest Century with both steel-bodied coupé models and two types of roadster.

This car requires full restoration, however work necessary to the chassis and underside of the body has already been completed. All panels, wings, doors and the main body member have been stripped to bare metal and work is necessary on all of these panels. There are invoices to support work done to date. Although believed to be mostly complete, there is still a tremendous amount of work to be carried out on this car.

There is a modern registration document and a letter from the Daimler and Lanchester Owners' Club expressing their delight that another Conquest Roadster is still "alive and well". When complete this will be a most stylish and sporty car.
