1971 ASTON MARTIN DBS6 GRAND TOURING FOUR-SEATER COUPE
Registration No. KLT 21K
Chassis No. DBS 5775R
Engine No. 400 4874 S
Maroon with cream leather interior
Engine: six cylinder, twin overhead camshaft, 3,995cc, 282bhp at 5,750rpm; Gearbox: Borg Warner automatic; Brakes: four wheel servo disc; Suspension: front, independent, rear, De Dion. Right hand drive.
The DB series of Aston Martins were looking somewhat dated by the mid 1960s and a larger car giving genuine four-seat accomodation was sanctioned in Newport Pagnel in late 1966. Italian styling was considered but in the event the mock-up by the company's in-house stylist, William Towns, met the most acclaim. From the outset the new car was intended to have the Marek-designed V-8, but as there continued to be a demand for the DB6 so its splendid engine was also used in the early DBS models. At the time, the top speed, reduced from 150mph to about 145, was criticised, but in practice the extra stability from the wider track and the magnificent De Dion suspension set-up more than compensated for this in terms of comfort and journey times.
This fine example has been in the same family ownership for the past 15 years (with two previous owners) and comes with a large number of invoices for work carried out upon the vehicle. Work during this period includes a major engine rebuild in 1981 with new pistons and liners. In 1985 Richard Williams again removed the cylinder head and fitted new valves, timing chains and gave the car a thorough tune. Since this work was completed the Aston has covered less than 8,500 miles. In June 1988 the car was given a bare metal repaint and since the end of 1988 the vehicle has not been used. It was given an engine tune and put through its MoT test without any problems last September and this is current until the 24th of the month.
The owner describes the vehicle as in excellent condition and there is a book available for inspection which itemises all the work carried out. Special features include an uprated rear suspension with Koni shock absorbers, a stainless steel exhaust system, central locking and harness seatbelts. Additionally the car comes with spare set of five chrome wire wheels.
