The two famous British car manufacturers, Sunbeam and Talbot, first had links in 1920 when they became embroiled in the STD group. The two names were combined on a car in 1938 under the aegis of the Rootes brothers, and carried on until to 1954. Traditional styling gave way in 1948 to the handome 80 and 90 sports saloons and tourers. The 90 started with a 2-litre engine, but in MkII form this was increased to 2.3-litre with an overhead valve derivative of the Humber Hawk engine. The car also had the benefit of independent front suspension rather than the outdated leaf sprung beam front axle.

This manual version has had four owners from new and the mileage of 85,000 is reputed to be the original. During the 1970s and most of the 80s the vehicle was laid up before being restored. The body was stripped and repainted to a fair standard, the chassis has also had welding repairs and is totally waxoiled. Although partially retrimmed the seats do need to be redone and the carpets are missing. The engine is in running condition and had a top end overhaul quite recently. By the time of the auction it will have a new MoT certificate.
