A Fine And Rare 25-Bore Silver-Mounted Turkish Miquelet-Lock Gun
Late 17th Century, the butt signed 'the work of Mustafa al Hajji'
With slender multi-staged barrel inlaid with silver arabesques and brass flower-heads and with applied silver bands, shaped bulbous muzzle inlaid with silver-gilt panels, silver fore-sight and iron ring back-sight, the breech with copper-lined stamp 'the work of Mustafa Hajji', characteristic lock decorated with applied engraved silver panels (incomplete), the cock inscribed 'the work of Hasan', ebonized full stock fitted with later pricker in front of the lock and with fluted fore-end and faceted butt, the latter inlaid with brass wire enclosing pewter and red and yellow pigment, the rear portion divided into bands, two of them covered in green-stained horn set with mother-of-pearl bosses, ivory butt-plate (cracked), applied engraved nielloed silver panel behind the barrel, nielloed silver barrel band and fore-end cap en suite, brass sling mounts, iron button trigger, and original ramrod mounted in iron and engraved silver (stock with minor chips and bruises, minor losses from inlay on butt)
