With browned barrels of decorative etched twist pattern signed on the rib and with silver fore-sight, case-hardened patent breeches engraved 'Smith's Patent' within a platinum-inlaid rectangle at the centre, and each with platinum plug, case-hardened tang finely engraved with scrollwork on a matted ground, signed case-hardened rounded scroll engraved locks each with a differing vignette of a game bird, finely figured walnut half-stock, chequered grip, blued iron mounts finely engraved with scrolls and vignettes of game birds, grip safety-catch, silver escutcheon engraved with owner's crest, a talbot, original brass-mounted ramrod, and much original finish: in relined fitted oak case, almost certainly original, with some accessories including loading rod, Sykes leather-covered powder-flask, and two chamois leather bags each containing Smith's Patent 'Imperial' caps, the lid with trade label for circa 1830-45, flush-fitting carrying handle with circular escutcheon, and applied brass window-plaque on one corner engraved with owner's name 'Edw.d F. Smith Esq.re', London proof marks
