A French Flintlock Blunderbuss
St. Etienne, third quarter of the 18th Century
With heavy belled iron barrel in two stages with gilt sixteen-sided breech section with gilt inscription 'C. Tordu Fer de Faux', the underside stamped 'Merley Dumares', shaped tang with integral back-sight, rounded lock with reinforced cock, moulded figured walnut stock (fore-end repaired, minor chips) carved in relief with scrollwork at the barrel tang and behind the rear ramrod-pipe, shaped gilt-bronze mounts including rounded side-plate (some wear to gilding), iron sling mounts, and original iron ramrod, St. Etienne proof
