A Flintlock Blunderbuss
Circa 1690, perhaps Welsh
With two-stage iron barrel cut with seven straight grooves and with a pronounced moulding at the muzzle, the breech section octagonal then sixteen-sided, border engraved rectangular tang, plain rounded lock with separate pan (cock associated), moulded blackened elm full stock (fore-end chipped and partly replaced) with raised apron at the barrel tang terminating in a circular button, brass mounts including flat butt-plate secured by tacks, and pierced scrolled side-plate, cast and chased escutcheon with grotesque mask above, and associated brass-capped ramrod with worm
