With rebrowned twist barrels signed 'D. Egg London' in gold capital letters on the rib and with gold fore-sight, case-hardened patent breeches each with an engraved band of chevron ornament, two gold lines, and gold-lined touch-hole with raised moulding above, finely engraved grooved tang, case-hardened signed engraved bevelled locks each with roller, blued steel-spring, patent steel (refaced) with vent, stepped tail, gold-lined rainproof pan (linings damaged), and original blued finish on the internal working parts, figured walnut half-stock (minor bruises, old minor repairs at the rear of the left lock), chequered grip, raised cheek-piece, finely engraved blued iron mounts decorated with dogs and game birds, trigger-guard in the French taste, case-hardened trigger-plate with urn finial, gold escutcheon engraved with royal owner's crest and coronets, brass-mounted ramrod, and some original finish, the underside of the butt fitted with associated side-nail, the toe stamped with royal inventory marking 'No. 25': in contemporary lined and fitted mahogany case (lid cracked) for gun No. 672 (central partition incomplete), with some accessories including D. Egg Patent powder-flask with angled nozzle, the lid with trade label for circa 1805-1817 and large brass circular escutcheon with integral flush-fitting carrying handle, London proof marks

When acquired by Keith Neal, the present case contained a converted double-barrelled Durs Egg gun, No. 449, which was sold from his collection in these Rooms, 8 November 1995, lot 17
