A 52-Bore German (Nuremberg) Wheel-Lock Terzarol Circa 1600
With slender swamped two-stage barrel with a ring at the muzzle, the octagonal breech section with brass standing back-sight and stamped with the Nuremberg mark and a maker's mark (probably Neue Støckel 4954), perhaps that of Michel Frosch, flat lock with a further Nuremberg mark together with maker's mark 'HR', slotted pan-cover release button, and swivelling safety-catch, blackened full stock stamped in imitation of natural staghorn (toe of butt replaced) inlaid with engraved white staghorn plaques and six mother-of-pearl panels engraved with figures and animals, some representing the seasons, and a man firing an early hand gun, iron mounts including baluster trigger-guard and flat butt-plate, two iron bands for securing the barrel-pins, and later iron-tipped ramrod (some wear and light pitting)

The term 'terzarol' (Italian terzaruolo) is generally applied to a wheel-lock firearm which lies between the long arquebus and the pistol. It was used to arm cuirassiers in the 16th and 17th centuries
