A Very Rare 20-Bore Portuguese Or Portuguese Colonial Snap-lock Pistol-Carbine
Late 16th/early 17th Century
With swamped two-stage barrel with prominent standing fore- and back-sight, the latter secured by a transverse pin, flat "molinhas" lock retained by three side-nails and with small swivelling catch in front of the base of the cock, and stepped steel-spring, full stock with hooked butt (minor chips, fore-end repaired), iron mounts including belt hook with long tang, baluster trigger, and later iron-tipped ramrod, the stock pierced with two holes for a lanyard
