bearing marks resembling the maker's mark of Henry-Daniel Robineau, resembling the Paris date-letter 'X' for 1761/1762, resembling the charge and discharge marks of Eloy Brichard 1756-1762 and with two later post-1838 Parisian restricted warranty marks for gold
Rectangular massive polished gold box, the cover inlaid with boldly carved ivory, bone, mother-of-pearl and shimmering abalone shell depicting a Bacchanale of drunk and dancing Maenads, shameless Pan inviting a musical Satyre to an orgy, other Bacchanti standing by, the four sides lavishly encrusted with a wine barrel and a thyrsos, a pannier, a basket with grapes and a hat, a jug with tazza, and the base with a winepress, all six scenes framed by chased floral gold scrolls intertwined with vine tendrils, grapes, scrolls and leaves in tortoiseshell, abalone shell and mother-of-pearl
