Lot Essay

Maria Ludovika, fifth and youngest daughter of Archduke Ferdinand of Austria-Este, Duke of Modena, married as his third wife, Emperor Francis II of Austria in 1808. Their marriage was childless, and she took a great interest in the education of her numerous stepchildren.
