Lot Essay

Maria Anna Cäcilie was the daughter of the Viennese financeer Bernhard Eskeles and his wife Cypora Itzig. In 1825, she was married to Count Franz Emil Lorenz Wimpffen with whom she had three sons and a daughter. She was a philanthropist and a generous patron of the arts. A keen collector of paintings, she displayed her collection in her Palazzo Fini in Venice.
