In the 1850's, Eugene Boudin began his commitment to the principles of painting en plein air and to record "nature truly seen in all its variety and freshness." A major influence on Monet and other Impressionist painters, Boudin became famous for his beach scenes, luminous skies and loose and delicate brushstrokes. In Saint-Cenery, Le moulin, Boudin uses a town on the Normandy coast as the backdrop for his masterly depiction of light and atmosphere.
