Andre Derain (1880-1954)
André Derain: Late Works (Lots 83-86) During the first decades of the 20th century, Derain was part of the Parisian avant-garde, creating Fauvist and Cubist works that were innovative in their expressive use of color and abstract compositions. Like many of his peers, after World War I he turned away from modernist movements and developed his own highly personal style, marked by a sober realism and a subdued palette. These later works are markedly influenced by Renoir's feathery brushstroke and Classical art.
