Lot Essay

The present work follows, with simplifications, Rubens' The Triumphant Victor of circa 1613 in the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister, Kassel. The original oil sketch for the Kassel panel is now in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna.
