Lot Essay

We are grateful to Professor Marcel Röthlisberger for confirming the attribution of the present paintings to Tempesta on the basis of transparencies and black and white photographs and for suggesting a dating for them to the artist's Genoese years, circa 1668-1684 (private communication, 2 May 2001).
