An Erfurt fayence pewter-mounted tankard
Mid 18th century, the mount circa 1800
(Walzenkrug) the cylindrical body painted in colours with a dancing peasant beside a seated trumpet player, flanked by palmtrees and flowering branches, the pewter cover connected with a ball thumbpiece to the loop handle hatched in manganese red, the cover inscribed C.G.L.H. and 1800 (hairline cracks)
