The floral and ribbon-carved frame with scrolled back and acanthus-clasped armrest supported by winged putti, the padded back, armrest and oblong seat cushion covered in floral apricot damask, on stop-fluted Ionic columnar legs

Lot Essay

This model chaise longue was shown by the well-known Parisian firm of Fourdinois at the Paris International Exhibition in 1878. In the Art Journal commentary on the Exhibition, in which it was illustrated, the piece was described as "...graceful and beautiful, the composition having exercised a brilliant fancy" (see Art Journal, An Illustrated Catalogue of the Paris International Exhibition, 1878, p. 102).
