Lot Essay

Georges Monbro (d.1884) continued the London shops established by his father, Georges-Marie-Paul-Vital-Bonifacio Monbro. He is known for his fine pieces, excecuted in the common revival styles of the time. Monbro received several royal commissions and exhibited at the 1855 Paris Exhibition Universelle. A similar desk to the present example, without hardstone inlay, is illustrated in D. Ledoux-Lebard, Le Mobilier Français du XIXème Siècle, Paris, 1989, p.495.
