cover AC, tied to entire letter from London to Rochdale by red Maltese Cross cancellation and by an indistinct straight-line handstamp, the adhesive slightly close at top, otherwise with good margins; handstamped "B/MY 6/1840" in red; the entire letter, dated 6th May 1840, toned and with some reinforcement, the lower flap with faults, includes a postscript, "what think you of the sticking plaster for a penny Postage?".
