Collation: π6 a8 b-z6 &6 A6 B8 (π1 blank, π2r dedicatory letter to Jacobus Grasolarius by Christoforus de Priolis, π4r tabula, π6v extracts from Jerome and Lactantius on Cyprian, a1r text, B4r ps-Cyprian, Revelatio capitis Beati Ioannis Baptistae, B6v colophon, B7r register, B7v-8 blank). 164 (of 166, u2.5 are lacking but supplied in contemporary manuscript in matching lay-out) leaves. 38 lines. Type: 2:111R. 7-line initial in red with red decoration, 2-6-line initials, paragraph marks and capital strokes. (Small hole in b4 affecting a few letters, repaired, a few other small sections of text repaired, tear at inner margin of a2 touching 2 letters only.) Nineteenth-century calf, rebacked in brown morocco, speckled edges (corners worn, inner hinges reinforced with tape). Provenance: H.R. Hall, inscription dated 1897.
Fourth edition of the letters of St. Cyprian, bishop of Carthage and notable early martyr of the Church. Although written in the form of letters, their oratorical style indicates that they were intended as addresses. This collection contains 74 letters, including 2 letters and the Revelatio capitis Beati Ioannis Baptistae which are falsely ascribed to Cyprian.
