Contemporary alum-tawed pigskin, tooled in gilt (oxidised to black) and blind, the central arabesque on the upper cover with ownership initials I B S D stamped above and 1584 below, clasps. Provenance: I.B.S.D. (binding); Piaristen Kollegium, Schlackenwerth, near Karlsbad (title inscription).
The Piaristen College was founded by Maria-Benigna (1635-1701), wife of Octavius Piccolomini, Fürst von Amalfi (1599-1656). She gifted the library formed by her father (Herzog Heinrich von Sachsen-Lauenberg (1586-1665)) to the college. It is possible that this volume formed part of that gift.
