Contemporary pigskin over wooden boards, roll-tooled in blind, spine in four compartments with raised bands (clasps missing, base of spine slightly chipped, lightly rubbed with a few small wormholes). Provenance: Ferdinand Andreas, Count of Wiser (armorial bookplate).
FIRST EDITIONS IN GERMAN of all texts, in fine condition. Dietrich von Pleningen was educated in Italy with Rudolf Agricola (whose Latin translation of Lucian he used) and Johann von Dalburg. He was an associate of Reuchlin and Celtes, and one of the most influential promoters of classical studies at Heidelberg. He was Chancellor to Philipp von der Pfalz, and was later in the employ of Duke Albrecht of Bavaria, becoming, in 1512, his envoy to the Swabian league. The fine full-page woodcuts at the start of the first three works are from the Augsburg school (cf.Dodgson I; p.509, no.17).
